About the workshop
Mastering Flemish doesn’t have to feel hard or frustrating. In this workshop, you’ll discover why humans are naturally wired for languages. By looking at how children acquire language, we will uncover simple but powerful principles that help us to use that natural ability effectively.
This workshop introduces the concept of comprehensible input: what it is, why it works, and how it helps you acquire Flemish faster than traditional methods. You’ll learn how to find high-quality input, where to access it, and how to use practical techniques and resources that work, from beginner to intermediate level. Live demonstrations focus mainly on beginner-friendly examples so everyone can follow with ease.
You’ll leave with a clear, stress-free approach to learning Flemish for real life—without memorizing grammar rules or forcing yourself to speak too soon.
This workshop will mainly be held in English, but there will be moments where we put the skills to use and use Dutch to do so. Meaning that a strong knowledge of Dutch is not required to join the session.
Part 2, planned for later this year, will explore advanced techniques for listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and show how grammar can be acquired naturally over time.

About the volunteer
This workshops will be created and facilitated by an IHL volunteer with the goal to share expertise and encourage internationals to further their language learning.
Evelyne is fascinated by how people learn and how to learn more effectively. After teaching herself Spanish, she spent five years volunteering as a language coach and supported more than 15 learners on their journeys toward fluency in both Flemish and French. She now helps expats acquire Dutch using comprehensible input—an approach focused on understanding real language naturally through exposure and meaning.
