Elektra Unbound - Luanda Casella / NTGent
When & Where: Fri 7/2 – 20h – 30CC/Schouwburg
Tickets: https://www.30cc.be/en/programma/item/elektra-unbound-2024-2025
About the event: With Elektra Unbound, NTGent house artist Luanda Casella stages yet another Greek tragedy. At least, that's what we are meant to believe. Hunting for the role of Elektra, three young actors copy various women from literary classics, pop culture and social media. Only to reveal their own problematic self-image.
Billy’s Violence + Billy’s Joy - Needcompany
When & Where: Wed 26/2 – 18h + 21h – 30CC/Schouwburg

About the event: A double bill featuring the works of William - Billy - Shakespeare. You can watch each performance separately, they are not sequels of each other. But you can also go for the full experience!
For Billy's Violence, Victor Afung Lauwers researched ten tragedies of Shakespeare and rewrote them into violently loving, intimate dialogues in which the woman is the central focus, stripped of any historical reference or anecdotal content. You never saw Shakespeare this boned and stripped down.
In the eighteenth century, people detested the violence and dark twists in his tragedies. Consequently, these were shamelessly rewritten. Romeo and Juliet lived happily ever after!
This inspired Needcompany to ask Victor Afung Lauwers to read the comedies and see what they can still mean in our time - a time of great controversies, vulgar polemics, cancel culture, structural racism, climate change, war. What is there left to laugh about? Is humour the coward's weapon or a form of activism?
Attention ! Definitely 16+ (nudity + violence against women)
